Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatology

Summary of Department

We make an accurate diagnosis as quickly as possible with various endoscopes and sonographic devices and offer the latest and best treatment options for hepato-biliary-pancreatic diseases, including malignancy. We consistently perform early diagnoses, medical treatment and palliative treatment for cancer, so patients with such diseases are first assessed in our department. We ensure that we apply the best treatment policies through multidisciplinary treatment, with decisions made by a cancer board consisting of physicians, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists. Cutting-edge technology in the field of gastroenterology, like stent placement for biliary or duodenal obstruction, endoscopic esophageal varices treatment and cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy have helped us to relieve patients’ symptoms in palliative care. We also administer novel anticancer drugs and molecular-targeted drugs for unresectable advanced hepatic, pancreatic and biliary cancer, and we believe that the best management for any patient with cancer is in a clinical trial. Participation in clinical trials is particularly strongly encouraged in our department, and several clinical trials are ongoing at present, with the number of trials based on cancer genome medicine increasing in recent years. We also perform tissue MSI tests and liquid biopsies.

Main scope of the treatment

Main target diseases:

Hepatocellular carcinoma, bile duct cancer, pancreatic cancer, gallbladder cancer, as well as diseases in the pre-cancerous state with a high carcinogenic risk and chronic hepatitis C, chronic hepatitis B, non-alcoholic fatty hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, esophageal varices, neuroendocrine tumors, autoimmune hepatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, pancreatic duct papillary mucus-producing tumors and general bile duct stones.

Technique

Treatment for liver cancer: radiofrequency ablation, hepatic arterial chemical embolism, hepatic arterial infusion (new FP, low-dose FP), tyrosine kinase inhibitors (sorafenib, Regorafenib, Lenvatinib), radiation therapy in cooperation with the radiology department,

Examinations for pancreatic cancer: ultrasound endoscopy (EUS), ultrasonic endoscopic puncture aspiration cytology (EUS-FNA), endoscopic pancreatic bile duct imaging (ERCP)

Treatment for pancreas and bile duct cancer: chemotherapy, ENBD, ERBD, PTCD, duodenal stent insertion, clinical trials
