Summary of Department
In our department, we perform examinations and treatments of the digestive tract. Examinations include digestive tract endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach and large intestine, endoscopic ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced X-ray examinations using barium or similar agents. Through these examinations, we detect early cancer, evaluate their progression and make decisions about treatment. In addition, as in other hospitals, we perform digestive tract screening tests for symptomatic patients and scrutinize patients who have undergone examinations at other hospitals and been diagnosed with or are suspected of having cancer. We are actively performing endoscopic submucosal dissection for early esophageal cancer, gastric cancer and colon cancer as well as endoscopic submucosal resection and polypectomy for colon polyps.
Gastrointestinal tract tumors often overlap with cancers of other organs, and we the treatment plan must be carefully considered according to the degree of cancer progression and the patient’s general condition. Therefore, we collaborate with departments such as the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Department of Gastrointestinal and Medical Oncology (chemotherapy) and Department of Head and Neck Surgery in order to ensure proper treatments.
