Summary of Department
The Department of Thoracic Oncology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic malignancies, such as lung cancer, mediastinal tumor, metastatic lung tumor, and pleural tumor.
The strength of our team is that doctors examine and treat patients regardless of their classification as a physician or surgeon in order to offer the best cancer treatment efficiently without delay. We encounter approximately 300 new patients annually, including for surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Each patient’s treatment is decided at a conference of doctors with full participation of the entire medical staff. The pathological diagnosis is performed by bronchoscopy, a computed tomography-guided biopsy, endoscopic ultrasonography or surgery for as prompt an assessment as possible. Our department also attempts to treat locally advanced lung cancers by multidisciplinary treatment with chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery, with some favorable results obtained. Another feature of our department is our attempts to develop new treatments for thoracic malignancy by participating in many clinical trials, including those for investigational drugs, in order to establish new evidence.
