Gynecology Service

Summary of Department

All of our members have certificates from the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and five additionally have certificates from the Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology. Our institution is one of the main facilities for gynecologic oncology in Japan. We care for people with a number of different diseases and administer treatments as needed.

Main scope of the treatment

  1. Cervical cancer
    Surgery (stage IA1 to IIB)
    According to the stage
    Conization, total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH), radical hysterectomy with/without bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) with/without lymphadenectomy.
    Chemoradiation therapy (CRT) (stage IB1 to IVA)
    Chemotherapy with/without bevacizumab (stage IVB)
    Recurrent disease treatment: miscellaneous
  2. Endometrial cancer
    Surgery (stage IA to IIIC2)

    TAH + BSO + lymphadenectomy (TLH for stage IA disease)
    Chemotherapy (stage IVA to IVB or adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery)
    Recurrent disease treatment: miscellaneous
  3. Ovarian cancer, including tubal cancer and peritoneal cancer
    Surgery and chemotherapy with/without bevacizumab and with/without PARP inhibitor
    For surgery, we usually perform TAH + BSO + omentectomy + lymphadenectomy (+/¬- resection of disseminated lesions if possible). Recurrent disease treatment: miscellaneous
  4. Other malignancies
    Vulvar cancer: radical vulvectomy or radical local excision with lymphadenectomy.
         Dr. Saito is the best surgeon treating vulvar cancer in Japan.
    Vaginal cancer: CRT or RAH
    Uterine sarcoma: surgery, chemotherapy, progestin therapy
    Trophoblastic disease: chemotherapy
  5. Pre-malignant diseases requiring treatment
    CIN (SIL): laser vaporization, conization, TLH, TAH.
    Endometrial hyperplasia with/without atypia: D&C, progestin therapy. TLH or TAH.
  6. Benign diseases requiring surgery
    Myoma uteri, adenomyosis, endometriosis: TLH +/- BSO, TAH +/- BSO.
    Benign ovarian tumor: laparoscopic surgery or laparotomy.
    Prolapse uteri with cystocele: vaginal hysterectomy and vaginal repair
